4.28.10-Spring Baseball

This brings back two very different memories.

The first: bringing home the softball city championship for the Harrison Hawks back in 4th grade with my brother Ryan. Crimson red uniforms, sweet red hats you can only get at a thrift store these days, a black lefty glove my Dad bought me--oh, and Dad coaching us to victory. I can safely say that was the high point in our baseball careers and definitely one of my favorite kid memories!

The second: playing for the Giants in Little League; learning how to eat and spit sunflower seeds on the bench; getting off the bench and striking out; getting beamed in the back by Brandon Barry; not going to practice that one summer, but still playing; getting promoted from left field to first base,,, but then demoted back to right field; eating more than my share of laffy taffy and other snacks from the concession stand; and then, realizing that I was really no good at baseball, retiring the lefty glove for good.

12 years gone by, and this weekend might have been the first time I really missed playing...
