4.6.10-Depth of Field

Depth of Field is synonymous with aperture. This is a function of your camera lens. Basically, when you take a picture and the camera shutter opens, your lens can effect the amount of light that comes in. If it opens up all the way, that is a low f-stop, close to f/1.0 (which is when the lens opens up all the way). f-22 is at the other end, where, only a pinhole fraction of that opens up.
One of the nice elements of f-stop is the effect it has on your image. If you want a nice blurry background with one focused subject, go with a low f-stop--like f/2.8. If you want a landscape with everything tack sharp, go closer to f/22.
I am making efforts to add depth not only to the field, but to my images. This is a common theme for me every time I pick up the camera lately. To be quite honest, it sometimes makes me put the camera down, and even discourages me from taking pictures. It's my most obvious challenge as a photographer, and I am working on it. I think I might try studying a little art history, and photo history or something.
