I work about a block away from the UN, and have witnessed several interesting protests. Most commonly the protestors are in front of the Israeli consulate, which is basically across the street. You can hear the chants from the 10th floor. Everything is really organized though, and the protests are usually done before five when I get out. Friday was a little chilly, so I got tired of reading in the park next to the UN pretty quickly. Getting up to leave, I heard a few chants in the distance, and, remembering that I had my camera, decided to give it a go.
The small group protesting Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi was definitely the happiest group of protestors I've ever seen. They couldn't stop smiling, which, I guess isn't exactly what you're going for in a protest, but I liked it.
Taking these photos reminded me of the 9/11 'protests' that we checked out - I'll post those next. Lib took what I think are some really phenomenal shots of that day.

Okay...so you're saying you're a big Gadhafi fan? Yes, I'd hide that too!
ReplyDeleteThe smiles are a bit strange; I could see that if the rebels become successful--but right now they're still getting killed. The spirit of the protest is odd--nice job capturing the event!
