Week 1: Midtown

On my way to Chinatown and the Lower East Side, I made a quick walk through Midtown, catching on my way both the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. Both built in the early 1930s, the Chrysler building was the tallest building in the world until, 11 months later, the Empire State building was complete (thank you Wikipedia). I work right next to the Chrysler building, and love the art deco design. I found out that it was funded solely by Walter Chrysler himself, and although it was the headquarters for Chrysler, it was owned by the man and not the company. One day I'd like to build my own high-tech barn (ask Libby for details), but apparently this guy is a bit more ambitious.

Exciting new posts to come: The historic Meatpacking District, and the Lower East Side. Stay thirsty my friends.

  1. haha! Ryan is currently in the tub with Mr Finn and I just read him your editorial from this post. So money that you work right next to the Chrysler building, I bet it's a cool feeling walking into work everyday feeling the energy from the city.

I burst out laughing at your "stay thirsty my friends" comment at the end. I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of a lot of raw meat.

  2. Interesting how you can get the blue in the sky to show up so blue--while the photos don't focus on the sky--the blue sky sure adds to the beauty.

p.s. Glad to hear Chrystler had enough pocket change to put up a building--those were the early glory days for the US auto makers.
