Week 2: Meatpacking District (Part 2)

Week 2 brought a whole new set of challenges. Being restricted to about 12 square blocks forced me to look closer and think harder about my images. I came to appreciate things that I would certainly overlook: loading docks of dying businesses, the irony of Abercrombie and Fitch, and subtle but thought provoking graffiti. What's so interesting about these overlooked ideas? It's hard to say. But the Meatpacking district seemed at times a forgotten corner of a past being forgotten, and photographing it helped me realize that.

The final series of the Meatpacking district is all edited. I'll throw it up in a day or two.

Thoughts on the pix? My favorite was the first. Although I think the editing sucks.

  2. I am with Deanna, I like the way the white light draws you to the dock area--nicely done. Your remarks are interesting on this area--it's so easy to forget the richness of the past--of this neighborhood and countless others like it. Abundance of activity and life are replaced with scarcity--but also life.
